Students Explored Solar Solutions at the 13th Solar Ambassador Program

Loreto College Students and Nivedita Sakti Members Engage with Innovative Solar Technologies, Gaining Insight into Sustainable Futures

On June 7th, 2025, the 13th edition of the Solar Ambassador Program, jointly organized by the International Solar Innovation Council (InSIC) and the NB Institute for Rural Technology (NBIRT), was held in Kolkata. This special event focused on raising awareness about renewable energy and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students of Loreto College along with members from Nivedita Sakti, Kolkata.

During the engaging program, participants explored a diverse range of solar-powered technologies, including Solar PV panels, a Pico Hydro Generator, Solar Sanitary Napkin Vending Machines, Solar Pumping Systems, Solar Water Purification Units, and bamboo-based solar garden lights and torches. These hands-on demonstrations highlighted practical applications of solar energy and its role in promoting sustainable lifestyles.

International renewable energy experts from Finland—Mr. Risto Isomaki, Mr. Markku Tahkokorpi, and Mr. Pekka Järvilehto—shared valuable global perspectives on clean energy solutions, inspiring attendees to see solar innovation as a promising career path. The event was further enriched by the presence of Prof. S.P. GonChaudhuri, whose mentorship encouraged participants to actively consider roles in the renewable energy sector.

The program fostered collaboration and creativity, with interactive discussions enabling participants to share ideas, ask questions, and deepen their understanding of green technologies. Dedicated volunteers from InSIC and NBIRT played a pivotal role in facilitating the demonstrations and ensuring the smooth running of the event.

By offering an immersive, hands-on learning experience, the Solar Ambassador Program successfully empowered students and youth leaders to become future advocates for renewable energy. The event underscored the critical importance of sustainable technologies and inspired the next generation to contribute toward building a cleaner, greener world.
