InSIC Funded School Program held on August 2022

The Heritage School kolkata, established in 2001, is a unique endeavour of the Kalyan Bharti Trust to recreate the ancient Gurukul tradition of India. The school provides an ideal atmosphere for learners to acquire and imbibe skills necessary for their physical, mental, social and intellectual development. It has over 4000 students out of which the best meritorious students were selected by the Principal for the InSIC School Program.

The main objective of the program was to create interest and awareness for solar as clean energy source reducing global warming and mitigating climate change and also give hands on training and exposure in the practical aspect. Solar energy is the power from the sun. It is a vast, inexhaustible, and clean resource. We can use this energy directly to heat and light homes and businesses. Similarly, we can also produce electricity, and heat water, solar cooling, and a variety of other commercial and industrial uses. The above lines were pretty simple for us to get as a response from the students in the recently concluded InSIC funded and NBIRT supported school program on the 17th of August but the class 10,11,12 students of the Heritage School were much more meritorious and knowledgeable. As they entered our premises at 10:20 am, registered and sat on their chairs with desks, the ambiance was extremely gleeful and energizing. The students' zeal and enthusiasm seemed contagious and encouraging. A brief introduction by Samrat Chowdhury about InSIC followed by a 45 minute very useful and interactive session by Richik made the mood & set the tempo. Each student was seen asking questions and the inquisitive aura was apparent in their eyes. Around 11:45 am, the eleven students were taken around in two batches of 6 in one and 5 in the other, and just to make it interesting the groups were named as WIND & SOLAR. 11:45 AM TO 12:30 PM: Hands On SOLAR LAB EXPOSURE IN TWO BATCHES & the first part was done.

Six items were shown to the students. The NBIRT team of engineers guided the students. Exhibit - 1: A Hybrid Solar Lighting System Exhibit -2: Solar Water Purification System Exhibit -3: Solar Pumping System Exhibit -4: Clean Lighting and Cooking System Exhibit -5: Pico Hydel Plant Exhibit -6: Factors affecting Solar PV Performance 12:35-12:50 PM: students headed back to the Conference Room for an interactive session with InSIC Board members from Finland, Mr Risto & Mr Markku who met the students virtually through VC and interact for 20 minutes. Students asked questions to Finnish Members. 12:50 to 1:30 pm - The second part of the exposure was done. And Prof Gon Chaudhuri also interacted with the students. 1:35 PM: Serving of Packed Lunch, program ended and students departed.

InSIC is sure that each of these students who attended this program, will emerge as Solar Brand Ambassadors and will definitely contribute in emancipation of the knowledge. Prof Gon Choudhuri asked each student to submit a detailed report cum feedback latest by 24th August to InSIC which will be assessed and the best feedback will be published in the InSIC newsletter with photo of the student with class. All the students will be given a digital certificate signed by the concerned InSIC Board member(s).
